CBT  Diploma Course Introduction

The aim of the DipCBT programme is to equip students with the range of knowledge and skills necessary to work with clients as Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) counsellors/psychotherapists.

Students will develop a critical understanding of the scientific and theoretical underpinnings of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for common mental health disorders.

We believe that theory and practice are intertwined, and we aim to enable participants to critically explore this link.

The DipCBT programme aims to equip students with the core competencies to practise Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and to provide the appropriate training to progress towards accreditation with COSCA, BACP or BABCP as Cognitive Behavioural Therapists.

Students will be expected to complete the DipCBT programme with a high level of skill, ethical understanding, and have the necessary self-awareness to begin a career in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

Course Structure

Entry requirement

Applicants will normally have a degree and have successfully completed the COSCA Certificate in Counselling Skills (or an equivalent) to gain entry onto our DipCBT programme.

We will consider equivalent prior learning if appropriate.

References and an interview are required as part of the selection process for this course.

We will also ask for all students to apply for a PVG Scheme Membership for work with protected adults (for a new membership or if your PVG scheme only allows work with children it will be £59.00 and if you have an existing membership for work with protected adults it will be £18.00 for a record scheme update).

We also recommend that all students engage in some form of personal therapy during their studies as this will be advantageous for self discovery (a minimum of 10 hours)

We had a great day at graduation on Saturday.

The class worked extremely hard over the time they were with us.

As usual, there are always up and downs along the way. It can be a personal journey becoming a psychotherapist and requires not just hard work but also the development of new skills and at times one has to be able to look at oneself in some depth.

This was a great class to teach.

They are on the way to becoming excellent therapists and I highly recommend each and every one of them. We are already missing them around the Centre and hope that as they now go their own onward journey they keep in touch.
